Chapel Daily Lectionary - Adapted From Evangelisches Tagzeitenbuch
Pentecost XV (Trinity XIV) Galatians
5:16-23
I say then: walk in the Spirit, and you shall not
fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the
Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do
not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not
under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are:
adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred,
contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions,
heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell
you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice
such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
self-control. Against such there is no law.
1st Timothy 1:12-17
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled
me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was
formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy
because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was
exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all
acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am
chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ
might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on
Him for everlasting life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God
who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
