Chapel Daily Lectionary - Adapted From Evangelisches Tagzeitenbuch
After Epiphany1 John 2:7-11
Brethren, I write no new commandment to you,
but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old
commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. Again, a
new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because
the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.
He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother,
is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the
light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates
his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is
going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
John 8:31-36
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word,
you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the
truth shall make you free."
They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants,
and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, "You will be
made free'?"
Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to
you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not
abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if
the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
